The comprehension, description and interpretation of reality is closely connected to linguistic forms of expression. When language can no longer apprehend the factual, then an illusory world of imagination – of the indefinite, the puzzling, the absent and the ambiguous – begins. Jochen Stenschke’s paintings, drawings and objects investigate these situative potentials and draw their determinative power from the physical and mental introspection of the artist. They represent the search for the cultural, philosophical and existential contexts of humanity and question the dynamics of life. Abstract signs and symbols, in connection with painting and drawing, adapt and fix the content of human existence. The visual vocabulary of Jochen Stenschke evokes complexities that go well beyond the capacity of verbal formulations to carry meaning.
