Katrin Trautner

Morning Love

Society cannot avoid the reality of drastic demographic change: increasing life expectancy combined with a declining birth rate. The age-old myth around the idea of ‘youth’ lives on nevertheless. But what does ‘old’ mean anyway? In her series of photographs, Katrin Trautner examines this question in a completely unexpected way, directing a new, sensual viewpoint towards the negatively charged image of ageing, thus creating a space where our unhealthy obsession with youth can be questioned. The artist uses documentary methods to develop a hitherto taboo subject: the portrayal of the eroticism of old age. Her pictures are a manifestation of how people over sixty feel about their sexuality, and their experience, not of the decay of time, but of desire.
