Society cannot avoid the reality of drastic demographic change: increasing life expectancy combined with a declining birth rate. The age-old myth around the idea of ‘youth’ lives on nevertheless. But what does ‘old’ mean anyway? In her series of photographs, Katrin Trautner examines this question in a completely unexpected way, directing a new, sensual viewpoint towards the negatively charged image of ageing, thus creating a space where our unhealthy obsession with youth can be questioned. The artist uses documentary methods to develop a hitherto taboo subject: the portrayal of the eroticism of old age. Her pictures are a manifestation of how people over sixty feel about their sexuality, and their experience, not of the decay of time, but of desire. biography 1981 born in Delmenhorst 2002–2008 studies on Photography at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld 2008 award winner „gute aussichten - junge deutsche Fotografie 2008/2009“ Katrin Trautner lives and works in Hamburg. |
