Julius Popp

Transposition

The fundamental presence of the digital information age and the changes in culture, society and human behaviour that it has wrought are the themes that inform Julius Popp’s work: “In my work, I examine the ambiguity of what it means to be human. Being human is a process that is constantly changing, adapting and realigning itself. <…> My installations are images that slowly reveal the underlying structures of culture.”

The artist’s large, room-filling installations, which include natural elements such as water, light and motion, illustrate facets of how we deal with information and information sources and their underlying structures. In Popp’s work, experimental artistic thought and practice, together with a critical approach to investigation, are combined with the aesthetic model of art in a way that is compellingly sensual.
