Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek

This Side of Africa

The journey which this photo book invites us to take begins at an airport on an island. Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek has long felt an irresistible attraction to islands. The images created there convey distilled, hidden emotions, albeit without paying attention to absolutist desire. The photographer, who also has a doctorate in psychology, shows the world as it is, but at the same time generates an atmosphere that accentuates the humdrum, the incidental. She captures fleeting moments and looks beyond the horizon of the unending ocean towards Africa – there intimating stories that evoke feelings both in and around us. Everywhere. Not just on islands.
