Robert Breer

In unusual independence from the art world, Robert Breer has created a diverse and individual oeuvre since the 1950s. He has examined central human themes in dynamic abstractions, filmed collages and poetic meditations. His high-speed films and super-SloMo sculptures stand at odds with the art landscape of their time and often go beyond both technical and aesthetic borders of their medium and of contemporary taste. It only from the viewpoint of today that their true explosive force can be recognised.
This catalogue presents for the first time a retrospective of the extraordinary work of Robert Breer, aiming to contribute to the rediscovery of this major “artists’ artist”.
