Christian Keinstar

Left Hand Path

The art of Christian Keinstar is not easy to digest. Since 2001, in his sculptures and video performances, this student of Jürgen-Klauke has examined the ambivalence of beauty and danger and tested the boundaries of the possible, be it in physical action or in the resilience of the material. His works made from reinforced concrete, immersion heaters and molten lead are transformed into a visually ephemeral state and – as C. Benthien puts it – “play with the media of physics on the keyboard of metaphysics”.

This catalogue is published on the occasion of Keinstar’s first solo museum exhibition and documents his art practice from 2001 to 2011 in detail.
