The “Beyond the Heaven” project deals with perceptions of everyday personal experiences in China and Germany. The search for identity and a place to call home, within the expansive “canvas” of two cultures, appear again and again, especially in Qi Yang’s artistic work. His experiences, also of making his home in Western Europe, the processing of these issues within the context of a new era, and the ideological changes in China and Germany are aptly and expressively displayed in his art. Two cultures, two languages and two mentalities pulsate in the work of Qi Yang, a Chinese artist resident in Dusseldorf. His art has a particular weltanschauung: here, he contrasts the “multi-culture” that is thus developed with his own culture.
The book displays the entire work of Qi Yang in the fine art disciplines of painting, objects, installation, photography and video. Each work created during the last four years in Germany and China portrays a new aspect of contemporary art in the twenty-first century. biography 1952 born in Wuhu, Anhui, China lives in Dusseldorf, Germany Professor, Academy of Fine Arts, University Anhui, China Visiting Professor, Xi´an Academy of Fine Arts, China Professor of Arts, Bergische Universität Wuppertal |
