This new monograph, for the first time, brings together all the genres of the work of the Munich artist Veronika Veit (born 1968). In her sculptures, installations, photographs and animated films from 1999 to 2005, she blurs the boundaries between the real and the fictive world. The title “Substitute” refers to the dominant character of Veit’s pictorial language: the irritation arising from the substitution of objects, materials and ideas. Everyday objects like a shower, bed, or desk are transformed through an apparently banal change of their materials and the slight adjustment of form to create complex works of art. In her installations, Veit unifies static elements like sculptures with dynamic elements like animated films. In this way, the sculptures are brought to life. biography
