Christian Tomaszewski’s installation On Chapels, Caves and Erotic Misery is a multi-part, variable space installation with a flexible assembly that uses (parts of) sculptures, architectural models, furniture, photographs, animation, video and light. The exterior space of the museum or the gallery encloses one or many interior spaces, and the viewer as well, who experiences the portrayed sequences when walking through the installation. “Enclosed” is a key word: in this work that is closed to the exterior, the visitor/observer/entrant to the installation is “enclosed” as are various other elements, found objects and newly created material. This collection of props and exhibits has endless connotations that the artist perpetually adds to, and which he re-configures for each new presentation. biography:
