„Amerika” shows the working conditions of immigrant workers during the orange harvest around Valencia, Spain, focusing on the day-to-day realities for the people who are involved as well as the system they are working under. The title refers to Franz Kafka’s last, unfinished book and as such covers the issues Gebert would like to address: the romantic notion of the promised land, the longing for a better life and the complex history of migration including it’s harsh realities in the form of exploitation and slavery. biography 1976 born in Munich, Germany 1998 – 2003 Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, Class of Timm Rautert 2001 – 2002 Glasgow School of Art, Environmental Art Department 2003 – 2005 Master Student under Timm Rautert, Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig 2004 – 2006 MA Photography at the Royal College of Art, London |
