The special exhibition Gott ist tot!? Twelve European Paintings on the Subject of Christ was presented from October 2006 to February 2007 in Situation Kunst (for Max Imdahl) in Bochum. Portrayals of Christ from a period of five hundred years illuminate the chequered relationship between religion and the different ways its message has been represented. Whether they show the triumphant God incarnate or the suffering of the son of God, the portrayals are always a reflection of a certain understanding of religion and the connected view of the world. A public interdisciplinary podium discussion accompanied the exhibition in December 2006. It looked at the works presented from a philosophical, sociological, theological and art-historical perspective; a revised transcript in this publication documents this process. |
The book will be published in our series art & forum. edited by Hilke Wagner, Stiftung Situation Kunst, Bochum
