airborn 00-59. Computer Aided Paintings

The word “airborne” describes the moment at which an aircraft takes off from the ground. The description also includes the two digits in the minute of take-off, measured in Universal Time Coordinated. The theme of the 60 works presented here is flying, both in the physical and metaphorical sense. This body of work portrays key moments in both individual and social change. More so than any other artist, Dieter Huber, a pioneer in the area of computer-generated images, examines the consistent use of computers to generate traditional representational painting, “crossing boundaries between the aesthetic domains of beauty and horror” (Markus Mittringer).

“We live, entangled with the media. Painting in itself is obsolete, photography is antiquated and computer works are standard. New content therefore demands new and suitable forms.” (Dieter Huber)
