Alongside the Curvature. Painting 2000–2009

Light constitutes the central theme of Anja Ganster´s painting. In her work, the artist focuses on our surrounding environment and scrutinises reality in her everyday search for the moment´s sensations. Her paintings of mostly deserted spaces depict layers of light, shadow and colour intensified into atmospheric, momentary images, sometimes verging towards abstraction. The actual location recedes behind the painting, which dissolves into an essence, a sound, extending far beyond the moment.

Along the Curvature traces the relationship between light, space, time and reality in four themes – the substance of light, transitory spaces, looking at the everyday, landscapes – issues that Anja Ganster deals with again and again when transferring images from reality to her painting.
