Anne Hoenig

Hard Boiled Painting

The paintings of Anne Hoenig are defined by nuances and a specific semi-darkness. She usually places solo female figures in destructive, distressing, lascivious and sensual situations; their poses remain hidden or pay homage to models from the world of film noir.

Hoenig’s precision with regard to observation and modelling and the irresistible clarity of object and person, space and detail declare an ornamental concept, which the indefinable action of the painting then slips away from. In addition to realistic painterly expression, she also incorporates decisive moments of tension, making the paintings especially hard to define. It is not clear what is happening or what is about to happen. Existing between the expectations of an event and this event not occurring or refusing to occur, her paintings inhabit an enigmatic state of suspense.
