Björn Braun

Nest

Björn Braun’s works maintain the balance between art and nature, the natural and the artificial. In his paper collages, the 2009 winner of the blauorange prize uses only “material” that he has discovered in other pictures. For example, he carefully cuts out sections of photographic images from old illustrated travel books and assembles them in new locations: a mountain range grows out of the shingles of a church roof, the bark of a tree becomes the sun shining on a snow-covered Alpine landscape.

Braun’s sculptural works follow a similar logic of transforming objets trouvés. With this in mind, Braun’s method of working allows nothing to be lost, all remnants and leftovers must be processed, nothing must be destroyed unless something new is created from it.

The artist’s book is published as an exclusive illustrated book and features a separate essay section.
