Nuhr fotografiert!

Photographic Art by Dieter Nuhr

Dieter Nuhr is one of Germany’s most successful political satirists/comedians. Less well known is the fact that he originally studied art at the Folkwang Universität in Essen. Nuhr has always been involved in the visual arts. Initially working as a painter, in recent years he has focused mainly on photography.

Nuhr’s photographic works – originating on his travels and on all five continents – are documentary in nature, sometimes melancholic and therefore very different to what we would expect from the comedian. In addition to impressions of everyday life in far-flung countries and cultures, incidental street scenes and still lifes, landscapes appear again and again as motifs in his photographs – as places of remembrance. Nuhr’s photographic art shows a little-known, profound and serious side of the intelligent wordsmith and his view of the world through the camera lens.
