Axel Anklam

The readiness to believe

„A prominent attribute of Axel Anklam’s sculpture is its deep roots in handcraftsmanship. This wrongly discredited notion refers in actuality to nothing more than professional command of the given material and implicates rich sensitivity to texture and surface-stimuli as well as a trained and lasting perception of form. Anklam’s works are captivating in their constructedness, so that even large-format pieces do not simply work as manufactured but are beheld as products which have arisen out of a long and intense process of form-finding. Nothing about these pieces appears arbitrary or coincidental. These are objects which were drawn into space by a calm and steady hand, establishing themselves in it like a permanently ringing tone.“
