Ulrich Möckel
Vom Kern der Dinge
In his sculptural works, Ulrich Möckel uses wood, cement and metal, or a combination of these elements. He shapes and recasts trees and parts of trees in metal. This opens up new aspects of each individual element within the object; here, the tree. The appearance, significance and uniqueness of the whole work are thus focused, and the viewer becomes aware of this process. This effect is not evoked by a particularly artistic or skilful process, which then alienates the object, and completely removes and distances it from the material used. On the contrary: the wood used is the focus of the artist’s interest, both from point of view of technique and of content.
