Nik Nowak

Gasag Art Prize 2014

Nik Nowak was born in Mainz in 1981 and currently lives in Berlin. An artist who works at the interface between sculpture and sound, between the tangible and the intangible, he is the winner of this year’s GASAG Art Prize. Nowak’s optical and acoustic installations are the result of intensive research on the interaction between sound, viewer and space. These installations provide ambivalent mental spaces between party and protest culture, between the symbolic occupation of space and the use of sound as a physical weapon. This catalogue accompanies the prize winner’s exhibition for which Nowak created a large-scale, interactive installation in the Berlinische Galerie.
