Happiness in Art: Expressionism and Abstraction ca. 1914
Bunte Collection
The painter and graphic artist Hermann Stenner, who is the focus of the “Happiness in Art” exhibition and the accompanying catalogue of the same name, fell in the First World War in 1914 at the age of just 23. One hundred years later, this publication therefore also reminds us of the artists who fell in the war, like August Macke or Franz Marc. Stenner’s work forms the crux of the Bunte Collection, which is primarily devoted to the preservation and study of his oeuvre. The catalogue follows his artistic path through life in the context of his teachers, companions and artist friends, among them Peter August Böckstiegel, Johannes Itten, Ida Kerkovius, Willi Baumeister, Oskar Schlemmer and Adolf Hölzel.
