Wilhelm Rudolph
The Most Fantastic is the Reality. Painting and Woodcuts
Wilhelm Rudolph has been celebrated as a sensitive portrait artist and the person who revived the realistic woodcut. Even in the 1920s, his delicate and subtle painting and his succinct motifs cut out in wood made him famous beyond Dresden. His most important artistic credo was to reproduce reality.
This exhibition catalogue, featuring Rudolph’s woodcuts and paintings, provides an overview of his two most important areas of activity and forms an arc between his artistic beginnings, through the development of his characteristic realism to his use of impressionist traditions in his later career.
