Franziska Hufnagel

The Birds Cycle

Franziska Hufnagel’s artist book is dedicated to her cycle of bird acrylics. Crows and ravens are the main subjects roaming through the enigmatic narrative of her visual spaces. Culturally and historically charged by mythology, literature and film aesthetics since time immemorial, her protagonists inspire a whole host of associations. While Klaus Ferentschik’s surreal essays were written independently of the paintings, the images nevertheless respond to the verse. Words and images intertwine with one another to create a tense yet comic, bleak yet lively exchange.
