Szilard Huszank

consciously – unconsciously

Up until now, Hungarian artist Szilard Huszank has been known primarily for his representational painting: with his nudes, interiors or elaborately arranged still lifes, he usually produces whole series of pictures that reflect the most diverse aspects of his subject matter. This catalogue presents Huszank´s current work. Here we can see a shift towards abstraction: “Imaginary landscapes“ form a dynamic contrast to the representational, clearly composed paintings that the artist produced during a five-month stay in Marseilles. Nature herself is the protagonist here: atmospheric, expansive and harmonious. Human beings would only disturb the image. Their role – it appears – is limited solely to that of imaginary observer, who is permitted to go on a voyage of discovery through the eyes of the artist.
