Nicola Hanke
This monograph offers the first-ever complete overview of the works of Munich artist Nicola Hanke. In her painting, she focuses on different surface structures which she presents in extreme close-up view with almost photorealistic precision and with a care that is reminiscent of the Old Masters. The motifs – everyday objects like bed linen, clothes, windows and glass blocks – seem familiar, but their fragmentation makes them appear secretive and mysterious. Details direct the gaze towards the shrouded, the hidden, arousing the curiosity of the observer.
