Lost Paradise
The question of how bound we are to our animalistic nature and what distinguishes our existence from that of animals has always fascinated humankind. Insects and other creatures that are not similar to human beings form a substantial reservoir of metaphorical comparisons about the behaviour of individuals or even whole communities. The publication "Lost Paradise" traces these metaphors in contemporary art, reviving primeval creatures in images, inventing beetles that can transform themselves into coins, or turning natural science archives into surreal chambers of curiosities.
