Larry Sultan

This retrospective on the Californian photographer Larry Sultan (1946-2009) is published to accompany the first solo exhibition of his work in a German museum. In American art discourse, Sultan’s work is one of the central planks of post-conceptual photography. After making an important contribution to the recent history of photography together with Mike Mandel back in 1977 through the media-critical series Evidence, Sultan created another major stir at the beginning of the 21st century with his peek behind the scenes of the porno industry in the photo series The Valley.
