Robert Weissenbacher

Débutante

The paintings of Munich-based artist Robert Weissenbacher are characterised by luminous colours and an expressive style. The carnivalesque, the animal and the human are narratively entwined in this first monograph. Weissenbacher's painting style is also reminiscent of famous paintings by Théodore Géricault and Max Slevogt, which he re-interprets. "My paintings are like a mirror of reality, a type of extension of life. They show the masks that we wear day after day, as a fetish, as humans with masks, as a tormented or exposed animal, as a torso hanging from the wall, or as a portrait.
