RICOCHET #4
Ahmet Öğüt. Wherever I go I see your shadow behind me
In his diverse art practice, Ahmet Öğüt uses a range of media like drawing, photography, film and installations. The artists always chooses a particular medium for a work, based on the underlying theme, and not least with the intention of questioning society, its potential and its limitations.
In his installation Exploded City (2009) Ahmet Öğüt demonstrates a model city made up of buildings damaged or destroyed by terrorist attacks since the 1990s. The knowledge that a great number of people died in these attacks is contrasted with Öğüt’s model of a utopia of people from different countries living peacefully with each other. His works have been shown recently in a solo exhibition in Kunsthalle Basel (2008), in the Turkish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2009) and in the Berkeley Art Museum, San Francisco (2010).
