Bernhard Leitner

Sound Space Sculpture

Since the 1960s, Bernhard Leitner has been exploring the issue of how space can be experienced acoustically and physically. His installations and sculptures incorporate the viewer. By lying, standing and moving in the space, viewers themselves become part of the sound spaces. In his first Sound – Space – Sculptures project in the 1970s, which includes works such as Ton-Liege (Sound Chair), the human body is permeated by sounds. This two-volume work, in a premium-quality box set, addresses a variety of issues: while the first volume documents the history of Leitner's elaborate studio in Ravelsbach, the second volume, using comprehensive sketches, texts and photographic material, amalgamates works from all stages of his practice.
