Waldstaub

Pastels by Wieland Payer

Wieland Payer is a particular type of landscape painter. Imagination and powers of observation converge in his pastels and drawings. A Humboldtian reflection of nature and a Romantic worship of landscape are interrupted by Payer's own painterly dimension. His landscapes are populated with strange abstract forms, light reflexes, objects and architectures. “Two characteristics are immediately obvious in Wieland Payer's landscapes: They are generally devoid of a human presence, and something isn't quite right with them.” (Björn Egging) The book features Payer's pastels and charcoal drawings from the last three years.
