Christine Jackob-Marks
There must be more to Life (Maurice Sendak)
Today Christine Jackob-Marks (born 1943 in Mainz) can look back on fifty years of creativity within the Berlin scene. Between her first tentative steps as an actress and her work in a kindergarten and youth psychiatric service, the artist, who studied at the art institutes in Paris and Berlin, is always drawn back to painting. Jackob-Marks says of herself, ‘I am not an intellectual painter, I’m spontaneous … The canvas is a dialogue with myself. […] The [image] comes from within, not from my head.’
The comprehensive monograph shines a light on her ‘life in art’ with over 300 works of abstract and subjective landscapes, through striking representations of animals, to female nudes and diverse photography.
