Trevor Paglen

A Compendium of Secrets

Trevor Paglen’s subversive Conceptual Art has been a success on the international art market for more than ten years. While studying maps of the United States, Paglen, who has a PhD in geography, discovered gaps – ‘white spaces’ as he calls them – that he then visited and photographed. This led to powerful images and photographs of political phenomena that are kept under conditions of extreme secrecy in the USA. Experimental photographs that show spy satellites in the night sky, shots of hidden military bases and Pentagon test sites, a list of code names of secret military programmes and an curious collection of military badges and insignia – this is all gathered together in the Compendium of Secrets: contradictory and mysterious, investigative and subversive, an interplay between disclosure and secrecy, evidence and abstraction.
