Lübeck Collects
From Max Beckmann to Miroslav Tichý
The Lübeck Collects catalogue presents an entire city’s collection of treasures: treasured works belonging to private collectors are supplemented with art from the depot of the Kunsthalle in Lübeck, some of which has never before been exhibited. The publication traces the time from postwar modernism to the present and brings together two very different types of collections: on the one hand, that of the public museum, on the other, that of the very subjective private collection. While public collections with their social mandate provide an as broadly diversified as possible overview of art trends and developments of a particular time or region, private collections are characterized by the taste of the respective collector.
