UFA
History of a Brand
The catalogue accompanying the exhibition UFA—History of a Brand at the Deutsche Kinemathek—Museum für Film und Fernsehen is dedicated to the economic and aesthetic strategies of the media company since its founding, in 1917. Three essays outline the history of the company and brand and simultaneously reflect on the development of audiovisual media in Germany. Based on a wide range of exhibits, ranging from the era of silent films to the advent of television to current innovations at the UFA today, makes it possible to trace the company’s reactions to social and political framework conditions as well as the market mechanisms of the respective epochs.
