Wolfgang Stiller
The oeuvre of Wolfgang Stiller (*1961) comprises installation, sculpture, and drawing. In it, above all an interest in the body, in organisms in general, is generally the focus. Therefore, also in the case of his larger-than-life “matchstick men,” which allow for a wide range of interpretations. For the artist himself, they are first and foremost a metaphor for the instability of human existence. With their black, charred heads, they bring back memories of people who burned themselves symbolically or were burned. At the same time, for the artist, this goes beyond a political dimension, above all so as to leave viewers space for associations. His new publication provides insights into his artistic spectrum and presents both the playful and the ironic side of his works.
