Martin Mannig
folkfuturism
For more than thirteen years, the artist Martin Mannig (*1974) has occupied himself with a special kind of figurative painting: His pictorial cosmos brings together figures from comics and manga, elements from horror and action films, and set pieces from fairytales and folk art. The artist’s intention is to give rise to ambiguity through taking up artifacts from pop culture and staging them in pictures in such a way that the story or character that is inscribed often contradicts their visual appearance. The publication takes a look at Mannig’s working method, the interweaving of his drawings and paintings, for the first time.
