Georg Baselitz

Turned upside down: Georg Baselitz (*1938) is one of the most renowned artists in the world. His inverted motifs him brought him recognition in the 1960s and broke with conventional ways of seeing. As a painter, he moves between abstraction and figuration, negation and taking up art-historical traditions. In addition to paintings and graphic works, for several years he has also been creating archaic-seeming wood sculptures that he executes with a chainsaw. The Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz are now dedicating an extensive show of works to this exceptional artist. The accompanying publication traces the artistic path of Georg Baselitz.
