Nadia Kaabi-Linke

Crime Scene

Nadia Kaabi-Linke is a tracker. Traces and incisions on the walls of buildings or on the surfaces of local public transport stops or stations frequently form the starting point for her works: scratches and bumps, bullet holes, graffiti, traces of sebum. Using methods similar to those used in criminal investigations, she make imprints of these traces and transfers them to installations, images and objects. Visible signs of violence or vandalism merge with the most delicate, unnoticed clues to eloquent structures of fascinating beauty. The artist grew up in Tunis, Kiev and Dubai, studied in Paris and moved to Berlin in 2006. An understanding of life in different cultures is just as much part of her own history as the experiences of exclusion and cultural entrenchment, which can be inferred from her imprints.
