Petra Sterry

In her drawings and text-based works, Petra Sterry explores psychological sensitivities, spontaneous impressions, and rationalized feelings. In the Elastic Punch series of works, she examines fundamental human states such as discomfort, fear, lethargy, or joy using language. Starting from Franz Xaver Messerschmidt’s “character heads,” Sterry shows the fragility of existence that every I has to overcome between assertion and loss of self. The participatory project The Elastic I focuses in addition on the experience of aging individuals.
