Helmut Lederer. Fotograf

Retrospektive

In his photographic work, the sculptor and photographer Helmut Lederer (1919–1999) dealt largely with the themes of face and body, travel and landscape, art and portraits of artists and the potentials of photographic abstraction. His participation in the legendary exhibitions of post-war photography >>subjective photography>> 1–3 (1951, 1954, 1958) led to international recognition for his artistic photography. The sixties were an extremely productive phase for his photographic work. Helmut Lederer published his work in numerous illustrated books, for example, Marino Marini (1961) and the key book Lichtnovellen (1969), creating a radical abstraction of photography. This comprehensive collection of Lederer’s work is being published to commemorate what would have been his 85th birthday.
