Stefan Lang
1993–2023
In his paintings, Stefan Lang (b. 1958) moves between abstraction and figuration. Inspired by his great role models, William Turner and Caspar David Friedrich, he repeatedly uses landscape as the subject of his work. His compositions are often based on specific observations captured in photographs, to which Lang adds a timeless, dreamlike dimension by covering the canvas with multiple nuanced layers of paint. In his paintings, often created in large format, the boundaries between subjective and objective perception become blurred, revealing a new, poetically transformed reality. This publication brings together works spanning thirty years to provide a comprehensive overview of the painter’s oeuvre.
