Marc Lüders

Bildrealitäten

In his group of works begun in 2003, focusing on figures in the landscape, in which he employs color photography for the first time, Marc Lüders continues to follow his strategy of merging different media, techniques, and levels of reality or, respectively, of illusion. The subject matter loosely goes back to earlier works where the artist montaged sketchy figures into the photographed setting of stairwells and other interiors as well as into urban or scenic exterior spaces. In the more current Figure images, however, an even more complex interplay between reality and illusion is brought about: They result from a multiple translation process, in the course of which the artist first isolated selected individuals from his digital archive on the computer screen, in the next step re-photographing and making slides of these images. The slides were then subsequently projected onto the laconic peripheral areas on the outskirts of the city and finally transposed into painting, while Lüders in this last step still altered details found in the original photographs.
