Following a 5-year construction period, the new Museum of Fine Arts is opened in Leipzig. It is the most important newly constructed museum in eastern Germany since 1945. The Museum contains one of the oldest and most important public collections in Germany. Its collections include more than 3 000 paintings, about 850 sculptures and collection of graphical works of more than 55 000 sheets. The works in the collections range from the middle ages to contemporary art, including world famous works by Lucas Cranach, Frans Hals, Caspar David Friedrich, Max Beckmann and Max Klinger.
