Thomas Wrede
strange paradise
Again and again, the point of departure for the photographic works of Thomas Wrede (born in 1963) is his yearning for the natural world and the transmission, through media, of this yearning. This book presents four extensive photo series - "Small Worlds", "Wrapped Landscapes", "Real landscapes" and "Seascapes" - that allude to a personal viewpoint within the current discussion of model and reality, picture and image, yearning and reality. Thomas Wrede takes this found reality, using his multi-layered pictures, in order to create new pictorial worlds. As in his earlier photographic works, these photographs show the relationship between humans and nature and, equally, show this on different levels of reality. The landscape appears in dynamic relationship between artistic presentation (models) and real seascapes (the North Sea).
