Tobias Lehner
Paintings (2003-2007)
“<…> an intuitive way of putting paint on the canvas is always the point of departure in the paintings of Tobias Lehner. With great confidence, using paintbrush and spreading knife, Lehner develops differentiated spectra of colour and form in his consecutive experiments. The use of quickly drying acrylic paints to cover and glaze the canvas gradually produces a rich colourist and vivid arrangement of the space. Gestural and expressive and geometric and constructed elements merge together to create a flowing space of colour and form. Lehner creates a suggestive area of interaction, which leads to associations with landscapes or objects, out of vivid shapes, stationary silhouette-like fields, semi-transparent smears, fine structures, organ-like branches, cut-out forms, intertwining coloured strips and compressions that suggest a depth of view. <…> Opulent chaos and a clear desire for order are the two poles of these very personal visual creations.” Emmanuel Post
