The oeuvre of Dieter Roth is extremely diverse, including literature, graphic art, sculpture, prints, book art and new media. Between 1974 and 1998, Roth worked with the Austrian artist Ingrid Wiener (initially also with Valie Export) producing five woven wall tapestries.
These tapestries are presented together in this publication for the first time. Further materials from the project, which continued for almost 25 years, are also examined: drawings, photographs, letters and “flat trash” like receipts and packaging material. The gobelin tapestries can be interpreted in different ways: as concept and implementation and as idea and interpretation, they portray private lives and everyday objects, they make communication concrete; are narratives and woven time, are witnesses to an artistic process and are symbols of joint creativity.
