Erik Bulatov
Train – Train
Unlike most other artists, during the Cold War, Erik Bulatov – disillusioned by the state regulation of the Soviet art scene – had begun to create, independent non- conformist artistic expression. In his recent paintings and drawings, he links concrete and typographical elements, which are reminiscent of Russian Constructivism, pregnant with figurative portrayals of landscapes, people and buildings.
This publication is dedicated to his most recent series Train – Train. A text by the artist gives insight into his theoretical reflections on this series of works, with which he texts out the visual and spatial effect of mirror-image letters against the background of illusionist portrayals of landscapes.
