Eric Fischl
Ten Breaths
This book presents a range of works, unique in Europe to date: 13 sculptures and the corresponding large-format gouache works by the American painter Eric Fischl.
Fischl has focused on sculpture and accompanied this creative process with drawings for some time. The confusion unleashed by his paintings, thanks to their direct naming of human weakness and fear, is transferred here to sculptural forms.
The sculptures, cast in polyester and resin, present life-size nudes and enter into tense dialogue with the drawings. Naked bodies, without context or reference, now carry their stories hidden within, thus offering a great number of possible interpretations. They allow the viewer to take the chance of careful observation, to penetrate behind the surface and the patina to find the essence of the sculptures.
