Dieter Hacker
The right angle in me
Dieter Hacker is one of the Concrete Artists who, within the environment of new trends in the 1960s, took constructive art out of the isolation of the museum and wished to make it more relevant to society. Unlike many of his fellow travellers, Hacker’s biography is marked by many apparent ruptures. Nevertheless, the social meaning of art, the different ways it can be realised and the different forms it can take, and the critical examination of constructive art always created the focus of his interest.
Hacker’s work can be divided into three, apparently, very diverse, periods of artistic creativity, which are nevertheless linked to each other. The unusual development of his work is being presented comprehensively for the first time in this catalogue through objects, installations and textual pieces.
