Reiner Tischendorf

“Less is more”. This is Reiner Tischendorf’s answer to just about any question to do with design and form. The search for a forthright simplicity was already evident in his early works. Furthermore, his background (from a family of artisans) has given him a profound understanding of material; he combines this with an assured feeling for colour. His watercolours, collages and terracotta reliefs are always closely linked to their motifs: landscapes, landmark buildings, churches, castles and monasteries. Tischendorf, using symbolic colours, numbers and very simple geometric shapes, recalls centuries-old principles of design; he does not limit himself to any one specific culture, instead always formulating equations on life and the world, the year and the firmament.
